A few days ago I’ve watched a podcast with Vladislav Slutskiy and it changed my attitude to the Art dramatically.
https://youtu.be/UmJFR8RbFM4?si=2UA_OzgmAnoxU5kQThe core thing is that all beautiful drawings from the Instagram is not the Art (like from the big letter). It is not something that would be shown in galleries, it is not something that would be touched in Art history lessons. And maybe pretty popular artist from the social media will be forgotten in a few years of closing their Instagram pages. And maybe it is not bad.
Now many people buy art as commissions or even unique author’s pieces of art to put them on the kitchen wall. Still life, flowers, interior art, nature… All this staff is on demand. The question is is it also important for the Art history and history of human being?
The “Real artists” according to this point of view show their works in the Art galleries, paint pictures of real world not in terms of realism and landscapes, but put some meanings into paintings. As per Vladislav, it is important, where artists learned the art, in which time lived, what was happened with them. The harder their life and the situation around them, the more interesting their art become for the world.
Actually I think this makes sense. You could see the difference between the art in galleries and art from the Instagram. I’m not saying that all art from the Instagram is the same, but the difference between the copy of cartoon frame and let say The Last Day of Pompeii can obviously be seen. But who can buy The Last Day of Pompeii and put it on the wall in the flat? Should someone?
