Actually, in contrast to Walt Disney for me, it was all started by.. brand.
Interesting thing - when you need to describe yourself there is some kind of stupor. It is always for me a difficult thing. And it is not clear what exactly is ok to say about. What are your achievements? What are your passions? Is it ok to say about hobbies, which are not connected to your job? Are we discussing only a job or the whole life? Does the job define the personality?
So many questions...
So that I've decided that to introduce myself to anyone else, I need to introduce myself to myself first. I just need to understand what exactly I do for life, what I like, and what I would like to improve.
And then how I would like to look in my colleague's eyes, in the eyes of other people. This is where thoughts about a personal brand arise. From my point of view, a brand is always about being useful to people around you. Otherwise, what is the point? So let's think about it.
As for me, there are a few directions which are interesting for me.
First of all, it is my job. I'm a software engineer. Now I'm in the middle stage and I would like to level up it. One day I hope to become an architect or some kind of manager. For now, I can be useful not only for customers and for the company that I currently work for, but also for my colleagues. I could share my experience, share some materials for learning something new in my area. Other than that I'm interested in managing staff and themes around developer's evolution (Do we need to grow every time? How fast do we need to do it (if we do)? How to do it in the most effective way? Etc.). And experience during professional growth can be useful for others as well.
Secondly, my current passion is brain science. I like to read books and watch lections about the human brain very much. It is so exciting! Besides that, it is also can be used in the learning process. Cognitive science - the point where we try to understand how we can learn something more effective, how we can understand and remember some information better - is the best part of it. I don't think that there I'm an expert, however, I can share some interesting materials, which I've found and which I've learned.
And finally, I like learning foreign languages. My native language is Russian. Obviously, I'm currently learning English. Also, I'm learning Turkish and German, however, the level of these languages so far doesn't allow me to write anything but greetings and thanks:). Anyway, there I can share my way, my materials, my experience.
All the time it all comes down to experience, right?
But there are also proses in that sharing not only for other people. I believe this approach can help to structure my own pieces of knowledge. Also, it gives an opportunity to share some pieces of your materials just "in one click" (by sharing a link). And of cause, it gives other people an impression of who you are, what you think, and how you can be useful and interesting to them.
That are the reasons, why I started this blog. Too much time I spent thinking, about what to write, what topics to discuss, in which format, which colors to choose for the site, whether should I pay for a normal domain or not, will I quit this thing in a few weeks, and so on. But the final kick to that idea was the phrase of Ryan Holiday in one of his videos.
"You're better off starting imperfectly than being paralyzed by the hope or the delusion of perfection."
I got thought, that I will never start with such an approach, so I hope to improve all things right on the way.
So let's start to share something interesting and develop a personal brand from this point.
